In London, it is convenient to blame everything on the weather. So when Boeing cancelled the C-17 media flight it was only natural to send a few curses to the gathering rain clouds. But no sooner had they gathered, they dissipated, clearing the sky for a bright sunny day in weeks. So, was it the air traffic control pulling ranks? One would never know as no explanations were given except a terse, ‘The flight has been cancelled, but you can still go inside the aircraft at DoD’s static display area.’
Present inside the cavernous cabin of the Globemaster was vice president, business development, mobility,
Boeing, Tommy Dunehew to field questions of the disappointed journalists, as was the flight crew
with the experience of Afghanistan behind them. India has signed a contract with Boeing for 10 C-17
Globemasters with the option of six more. The delivery is slated to commence in May 2013. While the
first five will be delivered by the end

of 2013, the remaining five will be with the Indian Air Force by the end of 2014. Even though IAF
looks at C-17 as a strategic lift aircraft, Dunehew said, “C-17 is both a strategic lift as well as
a tactical lift aircraft. It can perform under the same operational parameters as A400M and C-130J.”
