BEL Order Book Doubles to 23,600 crore in 2010-2011 |

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence PSU, has seen an impressive
increase in its order book to touch Rs 23,600 crore for the year 2010- 2011
compared to Rs 11,350 crore in the previous year. BEL has completed sales worth
Rs 5,550 crore (provisional), an increase of 6.3 per cent over sales of Rs 5,220
crore in the previous year. Exports have also registered a growth of 77 per cent
to USD 41.89 million. According to Ashwani Kumar Datt CMD BEL, “The Company
fully expects over USD 300 million to come in over the next three to five years
as a result of offset business alone.” R&D expenditure saw an increase of 11 per
cent to Rs 350 crore. |
At BEL’s annual press meet held at Bangalore, the company also announced that
sales of the Akash missile system had contributed to four per cent of the
companies’ order book worth Rs 3,619 crore and this is expected to increase in
the coming years. This is the first time that BEL has ventured into weapon
systems as traditionally the company makes more than half its revenue from sales
of communication equipment and radar systems. Electronic Warfare (EW) equipment
contributed approximately 10 per cent while Network Centric Warfare and Electro
Optical systems contributed another 20 per cent in revenue terms. Other major
orders have been for the Battle Field Surveillance System worth Rs 2,539 crore,
Lynx U-1 Naval gun fire control system worth Rs 1,676 crore, 3D Tactical Control
Radar for Rs 1,439 crore, Passive Night Vision Devices for Rs 950 crore, Schilka
Upgrade for army at Rs 747 crore, Command Information and Decision Support
System (CIDSS) for navy worth Rs 905 crore and D-29 Modkit for Mig-29 upgrade at
Rs 403 crore.
Some of the other important projects undertaken by BEL include the Combat Net
Radio (CNR) which now meets the required specifications in comparison to another
imported set and both radio sets are now able to talk to each other, Artillery
Combat Command Control System which helps troops to return enemy artillery fire
quickly and accurately and has been developed by BEL with indigenous technology
from Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). The Rohini radar has been
particularly successful with spin-offs having been developed both for the Indian
Army and Navy. The new products introduced and supplied during 2010- 2011
include Advanced New Generation Hull Mounted Sonar (HUMSA-NG) for the Indian
Navy, Semi-Ruggedised Automatic Exchange (SRAX Mk-2), Instant Fire Detection and
Suppression System (IFDSS) for BMP Infantry vehicle, Gap Measurement Device for
Indian Army, Hand Held Thermal Imager (HHTI), Combat Management System, Laser
Seeker among others.; |
