Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne PVSM, AVSM, VSM
 
 
Vice chief of air staff, Air Marshal NAK Browne took over as the Chief of Air Staff on the afternoon of July 31. Commissioned in the fighter stream of the IAF in June 1972, ACM Browne has an eclectic flying experience in such aircraft as Hunters, all variants of the MiG-21s, Jaguars and Sukhoi-30s.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, ACM Browne had served as an instructor at the Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. He is also a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College at Alabama, United States. Before becoming the vice chief, he was Air Officer Commanding in Chief (AOC-in-C) of the strategically important Western Air Command.

Flying experience aside, ACM Browne has done a diplomatic stint in Israel when he started the Indian defence wing in Tel Aviv in April 1997 and served as the defence attache till July 2000.

Meanwhile, with the retirement of ACM Naik, the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Nirmal Verma has assumed the additional charge of Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee.
