A Moment in Time
The silence at the Air Force Museum Palam is seldom broken, despite the constant stream of visitors here throughout the day. The awe it generates amongst its visitors puts them in a silent communiqué with the aircraft, the memorabilia and the rare photographs. Nestled quietly next to the Air Force station here, the museum is one of its kinds in the country. Within the ambits of its walls, the hangars and galleries narrate the compelling tale of the forces’ glorious history with its trials and tribulations over the years. From the very first aircraft of the IAF, the Wapiti to the latest decommissioned MiG-23, the museum houses them all. While there is no doubt that the show stopper here are the aircrafts, for young and old alike, the pictures, crests, weapons, and war booty are equally fascinating. One of the rare air force museums in Asia, it was inaugurated by then defence minister, Sardar Swaran Singh on 8 April 1967 in the presence of Air Chief Marshal Arjan Singh, DFC.
