Navy launches stealth destroyer INS Kochi

Madhulika Verma, wife of Admiral Nirmal Verma PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff recently launched the second indigenously designed stealth destroyer INS Kochi recently. Kochi is the second of three ships in the class presently under construction at Mazagon Dock and is scheduled to join the navy in 2012.

The 163M long Kochi, propelled by four gas turbines is designed to achieve speeds in excess of 30 knots. This indigenously designed ship will have state-of-the-art weapons and sensors, stealth features, an advanced action information system, a comprehensive auxiliary control system, world class modular living spaces, sophisticated power distribution system and a host of other advanced features.
